Masked Up Portraits, Harkleroad

Sophomore landscape architecture major Hayley Welzant poses for a portrait near South Campus Dining Hall on Sep. 16, 2020. Welzant spent most of her last semester at home with her parents and siblings. "Even though not many people are here [on campus], it's more comforting being around other students."
Senior biology major Nancy Zhou sits on bench at Hornbake Plaza on Sep. 16, 2020. Zhou said it will take a while to get used to online classes and that it is hard to talk to professors online because of technical issues. Still, she thinks it will eventually be okay. "We're gonna make it through."
Gabby Baniqued, a junior computer science major, poses for a portrait at South Campus Commmons on Sep. 16, 2020. Baniqued said learning online has always been difficult for her. Fall semester online classes overwhelmed her initially, but she said it has gotten better after she dropped a class Monday. "I've felt really disconnected, the days really bleed into one another."
Gaurav Dahal, a senior philosophy major, sits in a chair on the McKeldin Mall on Sep. 16, 2020. Dahal said he's experienced positives and negatives with the university's switch to online learning. He saves two hours a day since he doesn't need to commute to campus, he said. The negative sides, he said, are the online classes and staying motivated while working from home. "I'd rather just do something else."
