Assignment #5 - Lappas

For me, Zoom classes have only gotten more familiar, they aren't really any easier. I find myself watching lecture videos and teaching myself the content of the course. I feel disconnected from my courses, peers, and professors. As a more extroverted person, not being able to interact with people as much or in the same way is really difficult. My attention span during Zoom calls is much shorter than in-person meetings. I find that online classes take a toll on my body. I don’t get to walk from class to class and get that break in between. I am staring at a screen all day and get headaches from staring at my laptop for so long. Every few weeks I need to switch up where I work to make sure I don't get too comfortable anywhere. For a while, I worked at my desk in my room, but I quickly found that was not the best work environment for me to actually get stuff done. My room is where I just relax so when I try to do work there, its really easy for my to just slack off or get distracted (most of the time by naps or video games). I live with my extended family, so it gets pretty hectic inside. The best place for me to be productive is outside on my deck. When I work outside I can take myself away from the noise and really grind. Not only am I home all day now, but I’m also sitting in the same spot all day long. Because I take all my classes from home, I think the fresh air really helps me feel less trapped. I much prefer working in an open area than an enclosed space like my room. If I could work at my kitchen table, I totally would, but that’s kind of impossible. I take my stuff down in the morning and get set up. The water bottle is essential. I take that water bottle everywhere, which helps me stay hydrated and able to keep working. By the end of the day, I end up taking up the entire table with all my stuff, and it’s not a pretty sight but it is what it is.

I am pretty much at the whim of mother nature on whether or not I’ll be able to work outside. After taking these photos, my zoom set up drastically changed. It started getting cold out and now I am on the hunt for the next place I’ll be able to focus. Until then, I just float around my house trying to find somewhere that I can focus without getting too distracted.
