Just like my room, my desk is very small. I made the transition from my room at home in Mechanicsburg, Pa. a couple weeks ago, and it was a bit of an adjustment period to get used to the close quarters. At home, I am able to walk around my room, go downstairs and move freely, but here, I feel a bit stuck sometimes. I stay at my desk for most of the day, so I have the essentials right next to me. This includes my planner, by colored pens, coffee, water, my laptop and my calendar right above it. I have two decoration-type items on my desk, one says “Be Kind” on one side and “Stay Humble” on the other side. The other one says “Pause” and “Relax.” These are simple, but they’re nice reminders for me when I’m feeling stressed throughout the day. I also have a framed picture of my dad and I at my high school on my desk, which is one of my favorites. I have a pretty close relationship with my dad, and my family in general, and it often reminds me to call him or someone else in my family. Above my desk, I have my color-coded calendar that sits right in my eye line. I love color-coding, so I have the same system for my Google Calendar, my planner and my whiteboard calendar. I also have two framed photos, both of which I took. The one in the top left corner is a photo from the peak of Mount Quandary in Colorado, 14,000 feet up. My family went on vacation there three summers ago. The photo in the bottom right corner was taken in Salzburg, Austria from the Hohensalzburg Fortress, which sits above the city on a hill. My family went there the summer after I graduated high school. I love taking photos, obviously, and I love to travel, so it is great that I get to look up throughout the day and remember those places and the memories. The canvas in the top right corner is a bit cheesy, but sometimes it can remind me to take a break from my work and do something I actually enjoy for a little. On my chair, I have a quilt that a family friend made for me, constructed from some old shirts and soccer jerseys from my childhood. Overall, my workspace is pretty small but functional, and I am pretty productive when I’m working there rather than out in my living room.
